MSVCR80.dll missing, cannot install iTunes

Downloading and updating the latest iTunes this evening destryed the current setup of iTunes. Now iTunes does not work at all. It says that MCVCR80.dll is missing. Error 7, Windows error 126. What to do? iTunes suddenly does not even start. Thank you.

Thanks for this good help which worked half way, TT2!

However I noticed that itunes needed the Apple application support and it did not install with itunes as it should.

But i found an instruction at hte forum that this could be downloaded and installed separately and then it worked brilliantly it seems.

But how could it be that all this happened!!?? There should be numerous warnings. I try to figure how many millions itunes users around the globe who have spent hours trying to fix this. 50 million times 3-4 hours before finding the solution? More? Apple really SHOULD have notified not just say "reinstall" again and again.

Thanks again TT2, brilliant support from you!

You're welcome. 🙂

Someone elsewhere has made the sensible observation that the current problem might not in fact be a fault with this installer, but a heretofore unknown issue with a component from an earlier build that wouldn't remove itself when it was told to go. To err is human, to really screw things up use a computer. 👿

Well I've got further 🙂

I had to install WinRAR, and then Apple Application Support and Bonjour separately.

However when I connect my apple device to the system I hear the new device tone and see the 'Which application do you want to run automatically when connecting?' window. However iTunes itself did not open automatically (and wasn't in the choices for autorun).

Now when I open iTunes, manually, it does not automatically sync to any of my devices, I had to start sync manually on each one (iPod, iPhone 4 and iPad-mini).

I'm glad I know mostly what I'm doing, this would be a nightmare for any novice.

I'm ripping out iTunes per the advice here. The Win8 player is far superior, doesn't duiplicate songs at random, does a COMPLETE job of getting artwork (not a random miss like iTunes). Plus it doesn't have all the other bloatware that iTunes and Apple's insidious attempts to track my plays, my library and my use and push corrupted updates.

Thanks for the tip. Bye-bye iTunes!

So Apple Mobile Device Support won't uninstall... just ends up running the progress bar backwards... no error message, no clue provided on what the problem was. One post in another thread says to move on to the next program and another post says to try "Repair", multiple times if necessary. In other words, just try random stuff until it works...Lazy work Apple!
