apsdaemon.exe missing msvcr80.dll and won't run... Help???

I get this message at start up - "apsdaemon.exe missing msvcr80.dll because it is not found. Reinstall program"

Because of this my itunes won't work, I can't even repair it, and I can't even install it after removing it....

Try using the slightly more detailed process outlined in HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8. It may help to use safe mode if you find yourself unable to remove any of the folders recommended in the instructions. Alternatively trying moving on to the next step even when one won't complete properly. You may be able to come back to it later, or the reinstall may progress anyway.

If you have tried from control panel, I wonder if doing a system file check from a command prompt will help. This procedure looks for missing or corrupt system files and restores them. Here's a link to MS support. Be sure to run as administrator when you select the command prompt. I'm not well versed enough to know if the uninstaller is a "system file" but it would be worth a try. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will have other suggestions.

Hi tt2 and ronharr,

thanks for the prompt replies.

i FINALLY.... was able to uninstall the itunes, for some reason via the msfixit tool, and followed the link given by tt2.

now im in the midst of installing the itunes and runned the .exe as administrator.

but i encountered the error Apple Mobile Device... please ensure that you have the sufficient privilege.

And after the installation, i still encountered the error, "Itunes was not installed properly."

turingtest2, you're the man! Thanks, that absolutely helped.

To all of those who still have a problem uninstalling the Apple Mobile Device Support: Try to repair the installation prior to uninstalling. When I did that, it came up twice with an error message that I ignored. After that, I could uninstall the Apple Mobile Device Support without problem.

My system: Win 7 (64-bit)

When I updated iTunes, it caused it not to run, hosing it completely! Running repair did not work and simply reinstalling over the top of the bad install also didn't work, so.........

I followed instructions from turingtest2and it worked. But the only thing I did differently was to install an older version of iTunes from Nov 2013, that I just happened to have in my download folder from a previuos install. Luckily, I still had it, because this latest upgrade is screwing up everyone's computer from what I read by Googling the error message. Also the Mobile Device would not uninstall. I chose NOT to install the upgrade when prompted, until Apple fixes the problem. I'm currently running v11.1.3.8.

Remove all of these items in the following order:

  • iTunes
  • Apple Software Update
  • Apple Mobile Device Support (won't uninstall for me) so move on to the next item
  • Bonjour
  • Apple Application Support
