iTunes has experienced a problem....

I got a new iPod, and installed the new version of iTunes off of the disc that came with it (i had a really old version of iTunes before) and it worked one time, enough for me to load up my iPod. Now everytime since then, it says it has 'experienced a problem and has to close.' i have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes and quicktime a billion times and its still not working. i've also tried it from both the disc and getting it off of the iTunes website. any ideas please???

if you're getting that on launch (of itunes), that's usually a problem with a broken or missing QuickTime (itunes needs a functioning QuickTime in order to work properly). but there's some rarer things that can cause it.

with an eye to working out which causes you're having, can you try launching your QuickTime for me?

does it launch properly, or does it behave oddly?

if you get an error message (with the QT), let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.

okay, if you're getting that error message when launching itunes, but your QuickTime is launching fine, it's plausible that you've got a damaged itunes preferences file.

if that's what is going on, we can usually get past it by "rebuilding" the itunes preference files. for the rebuilding technique, see the following user tip (it's on a different topic, but the preference file rebuild technique is the same).
