Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
See also HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP or HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8. Some users may need to follow all the steps in the appropriate support document which includes some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

Try again using the slightly more detailed process outlined in HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8. It may help to use safe mode if you find yourself unable to remove any of the folders recommended in the instructions.

The only thing I didn't do from that more detailed page is remove ipod updater applications. Nothing is listed with that name. I have programs titlted ipod for windows and ipod PC transfer. Should I remove them?
It can't hurt to try. 😐

When I returned to the restore point you can perform an analysis and in my case it pointed out a conflict created after installation of 'important' microsoft update for Defender on 1-24-14 - KB915597.
I see that a number of us on Microsoft I think are getting these error messages. I was using Safari with
Windows 7 as my browser up until a couple of weeks ago and then Microsoft let me know that Safari would not be supported.
Are they doing the same thing now with iTunes?
What annoys me is if I phone the contact number I'll have to pay for it.
Thanks for that. Hopefully the information will prove useful to those that need to know.

So where do you go from there?
It didn't work. I've done it three times now. In the middle of the re-installation I got an error Apple Mobile Device failed to start. I retried and same thing. Finally I just hit ignore and went on. But at the end i still got R6034. I'm at wit's end.

I'm not surprised. 😟
I can't think of anything else offhand but I will keep my eyes open.

I wonder if I remove Safari if it will work?
This short list was sufficent for me to get running again. (I also manually shut down the Apple mobile device service, although that may have not been necessary -- I still had to do the uninstalls.) And of course, it's necessary to run the installer as Administrator.
Thanks!!! It worked like a dream...with gratitude, Shelley
You're welcome. 🙂

If I Tunes is deleted, will we also lose all the music?
