Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)

Remove all of these items in the following order:

  • iTunes
  • Apple Software Update
  • Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall press on)
  • Bonjour
  • Apple Application Support

Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

See also HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP or HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8. Some users may need to follow all the steps in the appropriate support document which includes some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

Hi tt2,

Me again :-)...unfortunately now that I have reisntalled my iTunes, my IE 10 doesn't work anymore. Whenever I want to download something it closes down. Even if I try to go to internet tools/about internet explorer it closes down.

I previously thought that this problem was only happening while trying to download iTunes but unfortunately it is the case for all the downloads. I had IE 11 and unistalled the update to see if things would get better but it is still the same.

Regarding my iTunes, it works but it won't synchronize with my iPad or iPhone, I guess that it is related to the above problem.

Any idea of where the problem could come from?

Thanks,

Jeff

Most software really doesn't take well to being downgraded. Internet Explorer is unlikely to be any different. I'd switch back to IE 11, but would recommend Google Chrome in preference to IE any day.

As for syncing the devices try Cerbu's post here or see TS1538: iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows, in particular section 5, forcing a driver update.

Thanks tt2,

It is actually difficult to switch back to IE 11 if I cannot download anything....unless I use a USB key like for my iTunes!

My iTunes actually recognizes my devices as they appear in iTunes and goes through the whole synchronisation process but at the end of it, my new music is not added and the playlist "added recently" remains empty on my phone while full in my library!
