Time Machine not making hourly backups since Mavericks upgrade

Recently upgraded to Mavericks from Lion 10.7.5 (took 14 hr.). Since then, when I enter Time Machine (without being connected to my external backup drive) I get a notification "your time machine backup disc can not be found". The only options given are to "set up time machine" (which I have done) or "cancel". My previous backups to my external hard drive are shown in the back ground but can not be opened and there are no hourly or weekly backups shown.

Disconnect the backup drive.

Triple-click the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:

/Volumes

In the Finder, select

Go Go to Folder...

from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return. A folder should open. Inside it, you should see a disk icon with the name "MobileBackups". If you do see that, try again to enter Time Machine.

Made six attempts to enter TM. Was able to enter 2 of 6.

Either you're triggering an obscure bug, or you have some kind of hardware fault. I think I'm wasting your time by trying to pursue this further. You would have to start a support incident. You'll be wasting more time with Tier 1, and probably Tier 2. Only with engineering input is there any hope of getting to the bottom of this.

My original concern has been resolved. At least I now have my local snapshots available in between my backups.

My access to Time Machine is somewhat limited but I can get access if I keep trying. If the problem gets worse I will seek engineering input as you said.

This has been a good learning experience for me with my MacBook. You have been gracious and professional. I thank you for your time and all your help.
