Thank you! I tried charging my iphone 5s for hours - nothing happened with the "reset" buttons trick, and I could feel the case was stone cold, obviously not charging. First I tried (gently and carefully!) warming up the case with a hairdryer. I held the case in my hand - so I knew it wouldn't be over heated (if your hand can't take it - maybe it is too hot!). Then I dugout the ORIGINAL CABLE - still in the box- and plugged it into the charger. The "low battery" icon came on instantly! After a few min the phone turned on, with 4% charge. Turned it off and am still charging. This is so weird. I used the other 3rd party cable for months - since I first bought it.

My iPhone 5s got hung up for some time. I tried to turn off but it did not respond. Then after a few seconds my iPhone went blank. Tried to put it on, no response again.

Then went through your post and others' as well, then I guessed my battery should have gone dry. So I connected it to the charger and kept on checking if it is switching on, after 10-15 mins the apple logo came on, I began to breathe normally!!!

It was the battery which got drained which I probably failed to notice.

Very glad my 5s is back alive and working. Thank you for the post guys.

That hair drier trick worked! I had taken my phone to Apple Genius Bar and the only option was to replace the phone with a refurbished phone for $240. Not happy with that option, I sought and found this solution. Worked perfectly! Hair drier for 2 minutes, plugged into charger, charged and powered just fine. Amazing! Thank you for the solution.

I OWE YOU THE WORLD...this is the ONLY fix that helped me!!! I can't thank you enough!!! I only had to use the hairdryer for about a minute and as soon as I plugged it in, it came on!! I had tried charging it for 3 hours, using different chargers.

THANK YOU AGAIN!!!!!!!!!

If the battery was completely drained it may take a little while before the iPhone responds. Plug it into the charger that came with it and plug that into a known good wall outlet. Wait one hour. Then reset your phone. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart.

If the phone restarts continue to charge the phone until it is at 100%.

If it will not restart Make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support.

Jim, thank you for this fix. I've had my 5s for 4 1/2 years, and this happened for the first time this morning. After reading some of the other comments, I think I'm lucky! My phone has fallen in water twice, and kept working. The OtterBox case may have helped with that. I want to keep this phone as long as possible. I paid $99 for it (new). You can't get deals like that anymore.

thanks so much, my phone was stuck on the charging battery screen and would not charge or power up for 24 hours until i read your post. I knew the phone felt cold so i put a t shirt in the microwave wrapped my phone in it, then i placed the t shirt under my laptop.15 mins later i removed the warm phone and put it to charge, within 10 mins my phone powered on.

I had this problem last night, the battery ran down to 0% without me realising so it shut down. I plugged it in to the charger I always use (an iHome alarm clock with lightning to 30 pin adapter) the low battery image flashed up so I left it for about 3 hours, but it still wouldn't turn on after that time.

I then panicked and plug it in to the charger it came with, the low battery image came back on and within about 5 mins it restared on its own as if nothing had happened.

If this happens to you, try a different charger that's all it took for me.

My 5s ran flat and wouldn't take a charge,i normally use my genuine charger and cable i had for my last 5s! so was gutted when it refused to boot up or even charge.after reading your post i looked for the box and found the (still plastic wrapped) charger & cable,i prayed and plugged it directly into a wall socket...praise the Lord,it showed the low battery icon right away & i left it to charge, about 10 mins later it booted up.

Thanks for your post
