windows error 193

The itunes auto-update failed and now when I try to open iTunes, it get "Error 7: Window error 193. iTunes was not installed properly. Please re-install iTunes"


I reinstalled iTunes and I get the same result. Anyone else experienced this problem? (I'm on Windows 7)

I am on Windows 7 and have the same problem...as do HUNDREDS...Apple messed up.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.


The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.


Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.


If you are running 64-bit Windows and the above steps haven't helped try installing the version of iTunes that can be downloaded from this support document. iTunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)


If you still have no luck try reinstalling iTunes 12.0, links in the user tip.

For those who updated iTunes and displaying the error "Windows error 193 or similar," a way to still use the iTunes download the 11.1.3.8 version of iTunes and install. Before installing something must be done:



* Step 1 - Uninstall the following programs:



1) Apple Software Update



2) Bonjour



3) iTunes.



Step 2 - Install version iTunes 11.1.3.8



If it shows the error "iTunes Library.itl" the solution is simple. Only delete the file in the C: \ Users \ Name \ Music \ iTunes called iTunes Library.itl.



Note: When you open the older version will ask if you want to update. Do not upgrade because it will give the same error in the update.



It is the hint. Could not say it is a solution, but a way to take advantage of the program for a while and wait for an Apple solution. Sincerely Ricardo.

I did all steps you said but still have same problem when installing almost complete it show : Service "apple mobile device service"(apple mobile device service) fail to start. verify that you have sufficient privilegesto start system service. with choice : abort , retry , ignore . if ichoose ignore then iTune cannot work ( error 7 ( windows error 193). please give me help, thanks.

Try HT203188: How to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service (AMDS) on Windows.


If you are running 64-bit Windows and that has't helped try installing the version of iTunes that can be downloaded from this support document. iTunes 12.1 for Windows (64-bit — for older video cards)


If you still have no luck try reinstalling iTunes 12.0. (Links towards the end of the Further Information area of the user tip).


In either case do a complete removal of the existing software are outlined in the second box of Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates before attempting to install a different version.

The turingtest2 fix mentioned above, worked well for me. I did not have to do any type of uininstall first.

Uninstall everyting...everything and try his version of itunes:

Windows 7 User here. Had this same issue over the past few days. After the latest iTunes update, and some Windows updates, I started to receive Windows Error 127. Did all the steps listed here, multiple times, with no success:


Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 - Apple Support


Just remember to look around for other Apple folders/programs under Common Files and under other users.


Then re-installed iTunes as admin. Didn't work, kept getting the unable to start Apple Mobile Device Service, but then started to get Windows Error 193.


So I uninstalled again, deleted everything I could find that was Apple. Disabled the AMDS under Services:

Didn't work, kept getting Error 193.


So try uninstalling everything Apple, even folders, disabling Apple Mobile Device Services, then try that older video card version. That finally worked for me, just a few minutes ago.
