iTunes 11.1.4 Crashes within seconds of opening on MacBook Pro

I have updated to iTunes 11.1.4 and now every time I open iTunes it crashes within seconds. Does anyone have the same issue? I keep submitting the error reports to Apple. I cannot do anything with iTunes because it crashes within seconds. Any help?

I tried resetting my SMC, but that did not solve the problem (for me, becoming unresponsive (hanging) for 30 seconds or longer on startup). However, it did allow iTunes to show more information and I noted that iTunes would hang when trying to access the iTunes Store. Turning off Wi-Fi did prevent it from hanging on start up. So I experimented with turning off various settings under the Store section of preferences. When I turned off Sync Podcast Subscriptions & Settings, I experienced no more hanging on start up. I haven't yet tried to resolve it further, but hopefully that knowledge may help others.

Turning WiFi off (still had internet through wired connection) allowed iTunes to start. Turning off "Sync Podcasts Subscriptions & Settings" in Preferences>>Store (per Irelander) then let me turn WiFi on & Restart iTunes. Oddly, I could then turn "Sync Podcasts" back on without problems. At a loss for why, but at least got iTunes back up and running.

Turning Wi-Fi off or booting iTunes in safe mode (hold down command and option buttons when starting iTunes) have both worked in getting iTunes open and operational in order to be able to deselect the Sync Podcast Subscriptions & Settings. I had already tried removing the preferences list file for iTunes and reinstalling and I've even tried what worked for pdshubert, but none of those resolved my particular issue, so when I have time I'll delete my podcast settings on both my iPhone and my MBP and see if that helps.

I have iTunes 11.1.4, most current update. Have tried rebooting my Airport Express, Macbook Pro, everything. iTunes still crashes within a few minutes of playing. Wasn't doing it last week and I haven't updated anything as far as I know. Unusable now. Getting to be like Windows software ! What is wrong with Apple now ? I spend 1/2 my day rebooting and solving iTunes problems now. I've tried the podcast setting thing. Mine was already off. Does anybody have a solution?????

quite possible that the update caused the corruption or that the updated iTunes is more sensitive to corruption. You still have to deal with that problem.

The method I used (successfully) was to drag the whole iTunes folder to desktop. When I started iTunes, it created a new library and database that was empty. I logged into iTunes Match, which had my library in iCloud, and it downloaded everything, including the tracks I ripped from CDs. It took a while, to be sure, but the problem was fixed. I had the help of an apple support person who took me through a couple other solutions before this, but this is the solution that worked.

iTunes Match is one way to recreate library and database. Follow the link I posted for another.

If your db is corrupted, waiting for another rev of the application won't help. You'll be without your tunes until then, and the update won't solve the corruption problem. You'll have to fix it.

Here's a test: Create a new user account on your computer. Log in and launch iTunes. Does it crash? Import a few songs and play them. Does it crash? If not, it is your db/library.

I have tried all the solutions proposed here with no success. iTunes freezes seconds after start. My library seems OK, all worked well untill the update to 11.1.4.

iTunes works now well if started in safe mode or if WLAN is turned of. Sync podcast was allready off before. iTunes also crashes, when started without WLAN and than WLAN ist turned on.

To me it looks similar to the problems described with windows. I hope now for 11.1.5

Greetings

Aftering reading almost all the posts on this thread I am quite discouraged.

"hope for'' is one expression I 'wished' we didn't have to use about Apple software. Oh well.

I just want to say that I am experiencing similar problems.

I use a MacBook Pro, and have MAc OS X Ver. 10.6.8

My iTunes version 11.1.4 has quit both when I am connected to the internet or not. When I am connected to the internet I am not using Airport/WiFi.

I just got myself a new iPod Classic First time I plugged it in, it asks me to register it. I am fine with that. Sadly, the first six or seven times I tried registering it iTunes will quit. I am not sure which 'try' it was, but I finally managed to register it.

I do hope Apple continues to work hard not becoming another Micro$oft, and continue to produce quality and reliable software.

That word "hope" again. Ugh.
