iTunes install errors: MSVCR80.dll and Error 7 (windows error 126)

All of a sudden my iTunes stopped working, and I get the following error messages:

1. the program can't start because MSVCR80.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem

and

2. iTunes was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 126).

Now I've checked the forums and followed the advice of uninstalling all Apple applications, rebooting, and reinstalling iTunes.

This is not working. I've tried installing as Administrator but doesn't make any difference at all.

There must be a way to fix this? I'm not a tech geek but I want to avoid having to take my laptop back to factory settings to sort this out.

Thanks

.

I see all the options for deleting all Apple programs off and then re-installing. Kudos to those of you who presented a solution. And that may be a fine solution, but no offense it is total crap that you have to leap through these hoops just to install a new version of iTunes. Seriously Apple, get on the stick and fix this! Not everbody's in the developer class.😠

This is the post and I recommend that you expand the OS applicable to your System.

Its a pain in the rear having to do all this, but it works (I think) ☺

HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP

HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

--------------------------------

turingtest2

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)

Remove all of these items in the following order:

  • iTunes
  • Apple Software Update
  • Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall press on)
  • Bonjour
  • Apple Application Support

Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

Please note:

Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

Perhaps you've solved you problems by now, but if not...

Go to apple.com /support/itunes/install

Select the "Install and Update ..." item

Go down to the 6th item "Removing and Reinstalling iTunes and Other Software Components"

Expand all categories and remove ALL the programs listed.

(I suggest that you download the free uninstall program "Revo Uninstaller" and use it for all the removals.

It offers the advantage of removing all the "register" entries and the folders and files pertaining to the programs

being uninstalled)

Reboot when all the Apple junk is gone, and then install iTunes with a fresh copy from the Apple website.

It only takes a few hours (Ha), but it is the only safe way to solve the problem. All the errors you got were basically misleading.

The iTunes program now works properly on my PC, but you might be interested in my posting about a problem I can't figure out.

Hope this helps, or if I'm too late, maybe someone else can benifit.

All the stuff needs to go to be successful.

If you used the "Control Panel" to uninstall it may be your problem. I'm not experienced with all the Uninstall programs available, but I have years of experience with RevoUninstaller and if you use it you can probably force the stuff to leave. Your probably pretty fatigued at this point, but if you can take a little time to learn how Revo works it will be worthwhile.

Also, be sure you look at item #2 of the instructions and get rid of the left over folders and their contents and don't miss the "additional steps" note.

It's interesting to note that the instructions were written fairly recently as if it was known they would be needed.

If you ever get things working, you'll find some other things missing. So far I can't find anything from Apple to explain it. Must be a new "feature".

Jan 26, 2014 9:38 PM in response to Caverons

G'day Caverons,

"Install and Update" is what caused the problem for me, updating from v11.1.3.8 to v11.1.4.62 on windows XP Pro SP3 and Windows 7 Ultimate, it refused to do this and stuffed up both OS's with startup errors, email delays caused by "MobileMe Services", Runtime errors "R6034", and countless other errors trying to delete temporary files, i.e. empty the Temp folder.

Noteworthy is the fact that this is not an isoloated instance as it is happening to "tens of thousand+" of User Systems worldwide.

The "Revo Uninstaller" is not needed as the built-in Add and Remove in XP and the Programs and Features in Win 7U or Win 8 will and does do the job of uninstalling the components of iTunes etc.

The method described in the relevant OS links followed correctly will do the job of uninstalling the components.

Most of you will undoubtedly forget to reboot after the first steps, i.e. you must reboot after Step 1 instructions before you go to deleting the folders described in step 2, etc. and also reboot after completing step 2 before you go to step 3 and re-install iTunes.

This is where "Jacki02" and "Jeadon" may have gone wrong and I suggest they start again with the procedures outlined in

HT1925: Removing and Reinstalling iTunes for Windows XP\

or

HT1923: Removing and reinstalling iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

Ypou must read the instructions carefully, print a hard copy if you can and then tick off each step as you perform them is a good idea to follow.

I'm glad that it all worked for "Lady K-OS"

Jan 26, 2014 11:33 PM in response to GarysIPad

G'day GarysIPad,

I doubt that Apple will release a newer version other than v11.1.4.62 as it works on millions of other systems and only a few Tens of Thousands+ User experience the problem.

Restoring your system to "a point before the ITunes Update and all is fine." sound good and is fine as you say, however you are still faced with installing the update to the v11.1.4.62

Try using the "Apple Software Update" to see if it will update !! if you want to upgrade ??

- I doubt that it will, even if you download the latest version and run it.

- You will still need to complete the instructions for the relevant OS (Operating System) before you can install the latest v11.1.4.62.

You should bite the bullet so to speak and do it now, perform the steps for the relevent OS, otherwise you may run into other problems on your system.

Like I said, it created havoc on my systems " ...... and stuffed up both OS's with startup errors, email delays caused by "MobileMe Services", Runtime errors "R6034", and countless other errors trying to delete temporary files, i.e. empty the Temp folder."

Good luck whatever you decide to do. ☺
