Me, too. I can't even open iTunes anymore.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit. I tried to update iTunes twice today. This is what I get:

This did the trick! Thanks! I too had problems witht he same file/program (during the ininstall step). What I did is 'repair' it, then it uninstalled and wvwerything went fine after that. I did have a few other issues on the Apple site. When I was trying to download the new iTunes, the site congratulated me on downloading, but nothing alctually downloaded. a few extra tries and it worked...

My music is back!

To install the new update for itunes, uninstall all applications associated with previous itunes installations. Restart your pc. Disable all anti virus software firewall on your pc. Go on Apple home page and download latest itunes package. Select run when prompted to download. Follow install prompts from windows installer. Any previous music and video files will automatically be uploaded in your itunes player. The files were saved in your music folder under itunes media. After installation has completed, you can turn your anti virus software back on. These procedures solved my problem on 2 pcs. This procedure should work for everyone.

After 3 days I think I have iTunes back! What I did that seems to have worked is to use Microsoft's Mr. Fixit tool. It fixes corrupted registries. And I used it to uninstall the Apple programs in the order listed by turingtest2. Then I deleted all Temp files. I had to also go to Program Files and delete all Apple files (including those hiding in Common Files!). Emptied my Recycle bin. Restarted my computer. Downloaded iTunes setup to Downloads so that I could run it using the right-click "Run as Administrator" suggested by turingtest2. Allowed it to start when download was finished and iTunes WAS BACK.

Hope this works for some of you dealing with the endless errors.

Took me about 3 hours tonight but it's all fixed. I'm running Windows 7.

  • Skype and a World Time desktop utility appeared to be affecting the uninstall, so I closed these programs.
  • Uninstalled all programs by Apple.
  • Manually searched and deleted anything 'Apple' in program files.
  • Emptied the Recycle Bin.
  • Restarted.
  • Finally, the runtime error didn't reappear.
  • Installed latest version of iTunes and it's working, with all songs, etc. intact.

Thank you so much to the contributors on this thread. The runtime error and not being able to open iTunes had been very frustrating.
