I installed a new hard drive in my macbook (white glossy) from 2006. I am reinstalling the Mac OS X. Disc 1 went through without a hitch. Disc 2 in the process keeps ejecting and the install process is not continuing

That second Disc thing happens frequently, the best way around it is to do a Custom install, and eliminate enough Printer Drivers, Languages, Fonts, and Applications you don't need... then it may skip #2 altogether.

yes but it still goes to asking for the second disk
Try a minimum custom install.
I followed the pram steps, the restart from C, disk utility, etc. steps. Too a few times but I finally got it to stop asking for Disk 2 and was able to access Disk recovery boot option, then erase HD. Thanks, Neville Hillyer for the detailed instructions.🙂
