Borders consistently cut off when try to save from mac word to PDF

I have been trying again and again to save Mac word documents to PDF and I consistently get one side of the border cut off in the PDF preview. Doesn't seem to be consist as to whether it is right side or the bottom, and sometimes there is less room on another margin but doesn't matter.

I have tried changing the border, the size of border, as well as page sizes to custom 0 margins (which seems to be the answer that people are raving about on the internet for this sort of problem) etc but it split my document into different pages (even though enough room on single page) and still cut off on PDF preview.

...help please! VERY frustrating when working on professional documents

So I actually found this solution on a post dated nearly a decade ago but it worked for me.

What's causing this unbearable headache? It's your printer settings. Some printers won't allow you to print in the area where your border appears. Simply toggle with the various printers you have loaded until you find one that allows you to see the borders in the preview pane. Easy no?

This is a real long shot but since you've got a rMBP, what screen resolution setting are you using? I'm wondering if other than "Best for Retina Display" might be using scaling which MS Word doesn't fully understand so that What You See Isn't What You Get. Have you tried running at the "Best for Retina Display" setting even though you give up all that screen real-estate in the process. And have you installed the 14.2.4 update from MS which is supposed to include compatibility with Retina Displays?

What happens when you view it in Acrobat or Preview app? or when you print it, either from Word or other programs? just curious whether it displays wrong or is wrong.

And you can export as PDF from Print - instead of printing also.

I have finally fixed this incessant problem!

Ok so here is what to do for saving a word doc to PDF with no border cut offs:

1. Go to 'File'

2. Go to 'Page Setup'

3. Click on 'Paper Size'

4. Click on 'Manage Custom Sizes'

5. On custom size set the page to 210 x 297 (if you're doing A4, or any size depending on your paper)

6. You will also see 'Non-Printable Area.' Set 'left right, top and bottom' to 0 (margin settings on new custom size)

7. Then go back and 'save as' PDF, then voila, all your borders will be perfect as they were intended with NO CUT OFFS!

Thanks for the above info.

I tried this, set up the new custom page size with zero values for the borders and saved this new custom setting.

Having selected the new custom page size I click OK to confirm it.

However when I go back to "Save As" to save the document as a PDF, the page set up simply reverts to its previous standard page size (in my case A3) and the problem remains you.

Could somebody kindly point out what I am missing?

Thank you

Thanks for this.

I downloaded Adobe Acrobat and it looks the same. I tried going through print save as PDF and it looks the same. I save it as a PDF so I can print it elsewhere (at work, not at home) off a windows without losing fonts etc and it prints the same way it looks with some of the border etc cut off. I have read the attached websites and have tried all of these things?

One thing I haven't tried, and cannot due to not being able to hook up my notebook to print driver at work is print straight from word but it looks fine in word, theres "normal" template margins set and still when I save to PDF it cuts some off.

The resolution choice depends on how much you want or need to fit on the screen. You can get more screen real-estate (i.e., there's room for more stuff visible on the screen) at the expense of everything looking smaller, or less resolution, which makes everything look larger and easier to read but less also fits on the screen. The native resolution (which you can't set using the Display Preferences) makes text look really tiny but is still crisp and gives a vast amount of screen real-estate, as long as your vision is up to it.

The update I mentioned was released to give MS Office 2011 compatibility with the Retina display and you're current version is later than that so compatibility shouldn't be an issue.
