FCPX not importing AVCHD files

Hello All,

ever since I upgraded to FCPX 10.1 and now 10.1.1 I have had nothing but trouble importing from my Canon VIXIA HF G20 camera

the file type is AVCHD and I never had any issues importing before the upgrade.

I have tried imorting directly from camera, inserting SD card into reader then importing, copying files to a hard drive then trying to import.

the only workaround that seems to actually work is ipening AVCHD files in Quicktime then saving them as .mov files then importing them!!! this is unacceptable and adds a ton of extra time to my processing!

If there is a fix for this or some kind of workaround that would enable me to import the AVCHD files directly from the card please let me know.

Thank You

Paul.

Hi Everyone,

I am still haveing issues with the importing of my AVCHD files.

Here is what I have done so far and the results

1. I tried deleting the prefrence files in Libraries for FCPX

this didn't seem to do much for me.

2. I unistalled and reinstalled FCPX

this seemed to work, but after about 8 imported AVCHD files it failed

I reimported the files and a few imported but I was still getting failures

3. I used mac clense to uninstall FCPX again, this program actually goes out and compleatly deletes all files associated with FCPX. I then reinstalled FCPX again and this seemed to work well I only had about 3 files not import. I then shutdown FCPX and restarted my mac and 1 more AVCHD file imported.

So here is the thing, when I reinstalled FCPX the imports were flying by going very quickly, then they slowed down, for example in the begining the import of a single similar size AVCHD file took about 30 - 40 sec then after about 10 imports the same size AVCHD file took about 3-4 min to import???

I even tried to use Wondershare program to convert the AVCHD file to a FCPX usable file then imported them, but for whatever reason FCPX did not like those files and FCPX would lock up with the spinning wheel more often than not, and when trying to export to YouTube it would fail.

If anyone has any clues to this please let me know, I will continue to work on this. If anyone needs any screen shots or other outputs please let me know.

I'm going to try a few things next

I'm going to try to switch to FXP from MXP 24p to 17p to see if this helps, I'm not happy about this but if i'm able to import and edit in 17p / FXP mode this will help.

the other thing I may try before doing this is possibly pausing the video more often, again not what I want to do but it seems like the shorter videos importred without any issues....

I know I'm reaching here, and it doesn't seem like there is a difinitive issues ether, but any help or ideas would be great.

Thanks

Paul.

the only way I can get them to import is by using Wondershare to convert them to a Final Cut Pro format, actually I can't even use the wondershare quick settings, I have to give if specific settings and create a custome conversion. It takes about 15 sec for each 4-5 min AVCHD video clip to convert. After I convert them all I am able to import them into FCPX without any issue. If you need more info on how I did this please let me know. Here is the link to the wondershare software.
