I have programs that need to be run in classic, but my IT department says classic is NOT compatible with 10.4.7. Is this true? Since I don't install my apps, I need proof of compatibility. From what I've read, is that it does not come pre-installed, but is included on the system disk, and can be installed then.
I need to add that the IT dept works with PC's usually, not Macs.
Although I haven't used OS 9 or the Classic environment in about 4 years or so, I believe it does work with 10.4.7 as long as your Mac has a PPC processor. The Classic environment does not work with Intel Macs which is the final death nail for OS 9/Classic with new Macs.
If your Mac has a PCC processor and shipped with Tiger pre-installed, Apple discontinued pre-installing an OS 9 system folder required for the Classic environment but this is included with the Tiger install package that shipped with the Mac as an additional install if needed.
I still have OS 9 on my Quad and it works at 10.4.7. So I have no idea what your IT department is smoking but there are no problems with getting OS 9 to work with 10.4.7.
