iPhone4 wont charge after cleaning the charging port!

i recently got a second hand iphone4 and noticed the charger wouldnt go all the way in, so using a needle (gently) and small paintbrush i pulled out heaps of pocket lint from inside! and then it fit perfectly .

however the next morning i woke up and its not charging at all! have i done some damage?!

also as a side note the home button wasnt working and i did the alcohol rubbing trick on it.. im sure this wouldnt impact the charging but thought i should say in case.

thanks!

This may have been a second hand iPhone but it was not in working order when you got it. Best solution would be to try and get your money back.

If you cannot do that, you need to take it to an Apple store genius bar and have the technicians see exactly what is wrong with it. Putting any chemicals at all, alcohol included, on it is not a good idea...rubbing alcohol contains enough water to do damage to the electronics.

If the techs say the unit needs to be replaced, the out of warrranty cost for that is $149 in the US.

It very well may be the charger or cable not making good contact...so that could be the source of the problem.

If it were me, I would take it to an Apple store genius bar and have the technicians check it out to be sure what is going on...beats getting frustrated with it. If you do that, take the charger and cable so they can test all pieces and figure out what is going wrong.

They do not charge for testing at the genius bar, just if they have to do replacement.
