My iphone is not showing up as a device in itunes when it is plugged into my computer, how do I fix this?

I have tried restarting my computer and my iphone but this didn't help. My phone is connecting to the computer and it is showing up in my computer but it will not show up in itunes. I'm not sure what else to do. Please help.

This really helped. I tried all sorts of things, but this is the only thing that worked, so I really appreciate your fix to this problem. I'll admit, it took me a while to do it as I couldn't find all the files you said to go to, but I found them eventually, and I've gotten up and running once more.

Thank you very much for your help.

Thank you my devices were connecting just fine and then with the most recent update ITunes stopped recognizing them. I spent half the day adding new songs only to not be able to transfer them to my phone because it wouldn't recognize my phone. I spent numerous hours trying to fix it and was on the phone with apple (waiting on hold) when I noticed this post. I tried it and it worked ITunes finally recognized my phone. Thank you!
