My iphone is not showing up as a device in itunes when it is plugged into my computer, how do I fix this?

Well I didn't read through all of the posts, but here's what I did (the solution by JF Fourie didn't work for me):

1. Control Panel -> Uninstall a Program

2. Find Apple Mobile Device Support

3. Right click -> Change

4. Repair it

That solved my missing iPhone in iTunes 🙂

Yes super fix - worked a charm for me too, but why did the installer not install the driver by itself?

Then I got an unknown error occured (-54)

Absolutely nothing was working. uninstalled, reinstalled, searched device drivers nothing.....

But a simple repair of that stupid Apple Mobile Device Service and BAM!!!! instantly recognised!

hey so i get all the way to the end where i double click usbappl64 but i cant get to the next button, because when i click it it comes up with a message saying the folder isnt 64 bit compatible...and this makes me sad, am i blind and missing a step?

Right-click the Apple Mobile Device entry in Device Manager and choose Update Driver Software.

• Select "Browse my computer for driver software."
• Select "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer."
• Click the Have Disk button. Note: If the Have Disk option is not present, choose a device category such as Mobile Phone or Storage Device if listed, and then click next. The Have Disk button should then appear.
• Click the Browse button and navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers.
• Double-click the "usbaapl" file. (This file will be called "usbaapl64" if you have a 64-bit version of Windows. If you don't see "usbaapl64" here, or if there is no Drivers folder, look in C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers. instead).
• Click Open in the Have Disk window. Then, click Next and then Click Finish. Windows will install the driver.

I followed JRooke's suggestion and I finally got my iTunes (12.1.0.71) on my Windows 8 laptop to recognize my iPhone 6+ and iPad2...

It does not work.

I've tried this method but when I right click apple mobile device service it only shows 'Start, stop, pause, resume, restart, all tasks, refresh, properties and help' but it does not say update driver software anywhere?

HELLPPPPP i'm tearing my hair out here!
