How can I connect my iPad to both wifi and my MacBook hotspot?

I use an iPad at the school where I work. It is school-issued, so it can connect to the wifi here. My MacBook, however, is not school-issued. I use it for content creation and sideshows when I bring it to work. The problem is that my MacBook is not allowed to connect to the school's wifi network for security reasons, which is all well and good, but that means that I cannot use the iPad with the MacBook.

I use the iPad primarily for taking attendance on our online grade book software and keeping up with email. I would like to be able to use it as a hub and remote for slideshows as well, but since the MacBook cannot connect to the same wifi network as the iPad this seems to be impossible.

Recently. I discovered the ability to connect the iPad directly to my MacBook without Internet access, using my MacBook as a wifi hotspot. This is an okay solution, but for the fact that when The iPad is connected to the MacBook, it is unable to connect to the internet at the same time.

In short, my MacBook can connect to my iPad, but not the wifi network; my iPad can connect to wifi and my MacBook, but not both at the same time; I need my iPad to be connected to both my MacBook's hotspot and the school's wifi. Is this possible?

MacBook Pro, iOS 1.x
