New problem updating to iTunes 11.1.4

Like hundreds of other users I am having serious problems updating iTunes. Having tried numerous suggested solutions, all to no avail, I system restored to a point before I tried to update. Following the restore I tried to open iTunes and now I'm faced with the message, "iTunes cannot run because some of its required files are missing. Please reinstall iTunes".Obviously reinstalling has once again proved a complete waste of time. Please help!

Curiouser and curiouser. 😕

Does holding both CTRL+SHIFT down as you attempt to start iTunes do anything useful? It is supposed to start iTunes in safe mode. It could be that iTunes is trying to call some plugin which is no longer there and falling over when it tries.

I noticed something in the logs regarding an H: drive which was the target for some operations but I hadn't really had a chance to work out if it meant anything.

Nothing happens when I hold down Shift and Ctrl, iTunes simply doesn't boot up; even the error message doesn't appear.

Ah forgot to mention that, Drive: H is an external hard drive I have pretty much permanently connected via USB to my laptop. I sync-ed some videos in there to my iTunes on my regular account. I've always done this and it's never given any problems. If the file is missing or deleted, iTunes simply can't find the file or location etc... but at least it starts up!
