Autosave Error...File being changed by another application???

I've been working on a document in Pages 5.1 which is stored in iCloud. Suddenly I got an alert that the document could not be AUTOSAVED. I closed the file and reopened it and a few minutes later got a different alert, shown below:

User uploaded file

I have no idea where this autosave stuff is coming from. I always save it manually. And I surely have no idea what "other application" is changing it.

The only thing I can think of is that before all this started, I did REVERT TO...BROWSE ALL VERSIONS and restored a previous version. But I've done that many times and never got any autosave alerts.

Anyone have any idea what's going on here? I'm afraid my document will get all messed up or at the very least, those alerts coming down every minute or two are driving me nuts.

Thanks.

yes but it changes format ONLY if it is opened in iCloud. If it's stored in iCloud but never opened on another device it remains Pages 09, so I'm not sure why I'm getting that error still. But if you are not going to open it in another device then why store it there and so now I'm not. But it does suck, because I really want to be able to open it on another device but I'm not gonna mess with it.

I'd also like the Pages iCloud Beta to be better so I can work on my document at work too!

Stored but never opened is not workable.

I agree with the rest, but the Irish have a great saying "If wishes were horses, beggars would ride".

Apple is currently driving me insane with sharing photos from my iPod touch.

Absolutely nothing works bar my tediously moving hundreds of images from My Photostream to My Camera Roll one by one, and that is after having eliminated the endless succession of Apple technologies that "Just don't work!".

OK,so nowI am using Pages 09 and I have the file saved to my hard drive and NOT iCLOUD, and I still got the same alert as I got when it was on iCloud and I was using Pages 5 (see first post of this thread).

So how can this have anything to do with iCloud or Pages 5?

Moreover, in either Pages, this alert does not happen every time a file an autossave or a manual save is attempted. It's not consistent, and its very weird.

But saved in Mavericks?

Have you actually turned iCloud off? You may save a copy to your local hard drive, that doesn't mean it isn't also syncing with iCloud.

It is also possibly a versioning problem, no-one has absolutely nailed it.

The problem has been reported in Numbers and Keynote as well. I have also heard of XCode users having similar warnings.

In all cases choosing Save Anyway seems to be fine.

Yes. Saved in Mavericks.

Why would it synch with iCloud if it's saved to my hard drive. That makes no sense to me.

Anyway, I'm not turning off icloud since I want my calendar and contacts to synch with my iPhone and ipad.

And now it seems whether I use pages 5 or 09 is irrelevant for this particular problem.

I must admit I do like pages 09 better, but I also like being able to edit my document on ipad. This is a pain in the butt.

You should want to have a copy on your hard drive and in iCloud.

Another poster here is using iCloud only and working between Office and home. Her 1300 page document won't open now.

All eggs/1 basket = 0

iCloud syncs rubbish as fast as it syncs good files.

Like with MacDonalds, consistency and convenience have a heavy price.

Peter

btw You can chose which apps to sync and which not to in System Preferences > iCloud > Documents and Data > Options

I had been keeping a file in icloud and working off of that and then copying it in the finder (icloud docs are on accessible from there if you know where to look) to my hard drive as well. Plus my whole hard drive is continually being backed up in time machine. But I went solely to local HD based on why you've been telling me but now I think I'm gonna go back to the original method. I can't have enough backups of this.

Also, has anything been in beta a longer than iWork's for icloud?
