It doesn't happen to everybody, so there is probably something specific to her installation.
One possible cause is the preferences file has become corrupted. To clear it, start up Photoshop and immediately press the Command, Shift, and Option keys until the dialog box pops up asking if you want to reset the Settings file.
Another possible cause is a corrupted font file. To help find out if that is the cause, open the Apple Font Book utility, click All Fonts, select all of the fonts, and choose File/Validate Fonts. Minor problems found may not cause the crashes, but major problems might.
If nothing fixes it, go into the Utilities folder, open the Adobe Installers folder, run the Uninstall Photoshop file in there, and then reinstall Photoshop.
