Apple Support Application Not Found?

After the most recent itunes update, my itunes wouldn't start. I uninstalled all the Apple products on my laptop and then went to reinstall Itunes. Now, I get a different error. It says Apple Support Not Found Error 2. Does anyone hav any suggestions? I can't install or open itunes.

Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.

Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:

http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:

http://www.rarlab.com/

Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").

Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.

Does it install properly for you?

If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

Sure. When I plug in the iPod (Nano, 7th Generation), I get this message: "An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again."

I've gone through all of the iPod trouble shooting steps and I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes again. It shows up on my computer briefly but then as soon as this message appears, it also disappears from my computer. It was working fine before this last update and all of the issues with iTunes before that. Any help wold be great.

Thank you! Between these two solutions, I was able to fix the problem. For anyone else that has this problem: this is what I did. Using the instructions that b noir sent about downloading the rarlab software and doing a standalone install of the Apple Application Support Software, I did the same with the Apple Device Support software. I found out that was missing by using the troubshooting page above. Thank you again. This whole update has been very frustrating.
