why UMA is not activated on iphone

why UMA is not activated on iphone 5s, I consider that we as consumers have the right to have the features that are available in the market, like in my case, I am an apple devices fan, but hate that every time I see someone else with a cheaper phone than me they have better features..is upsetting that my little brother on a Samsung galaxy can make phone calls even with no cellular signal, just because the phone have the capacity to use wifi to call, iphone only have Facetime, but not everyone in the world have iphone, so I consider that as a consumer we have the right to have these features that carriers offers to us, my suggestion is to stop loosing clients to android, and get in line with the technology, and send an update that enables UMA features (Open Wifi Calling) to every one, not restricting us to just Facetime.

You weren't clear in any of your points of who "promised" this technology? And was this promise in writing?

All I can find is some analysts said the CEO of T-Mobile said something about it possibly being added in the future. Even verbally this is a weak "promise" at best but your legal issue in this case is with T-Mobile, not with Apple.

If Apple does see a fiscal need to add this feature they will have to be the ones to add it as they do not allow access to the phone APIs for security reasons. You meant in your earlier post to go back to the reason the 3rd party software developer did so for Android and did not for Apple. But everything I've read shows that only certain Android phones offered by T-Mobile have the capability, not all of them.

If Apple is considering offering WMA on T-Mobile I woud think they will probably want to go a hardware route rather than software so this may be something that gets included with the iPhone 6 and will not be retrocactive to older phones. Or Apple may be waiting to see if T-Mobile USA is going to be fiscally viable in the next few years.

No it doesn't.

One could take a wild guess and by yoru name here, think you live at an airport.

I purchased a phone that was promised this feature 12 months ago;

Then you should take this up with T-Mobile, if they promised you this.

they indicated that a future update to iOS was needed to implement UMA WiFi Calling;

Correct. It is not implemented in iOS.

It would take an update.

T-Mobile telling you this by no means implies that Apple actually was going to do it. It simply means it was not in the current iOS.

You said T-MOBILE had made public announcements regarding this, "T-Mobile announced that Apple was blocking their implementation of this app!". With a nice exclamation point. Now a comment to you buy someone in an email or on the phone would not constitute an "announcement". Where is this announcement you spoke of.

And yes, I'm quite familiar with the app store, applications, etc. Apple has never, and never will allow access to the phone APIs or firmware on the iPhone. Haven't since the first iPhone, due to security on the iPhone never will. This is not "blocking" a feature. And this certainly would not interfere with their plans for FaceTime Audio or anything else otherwise they would have also blocked the Femtocells which even T-Mobile used to use.

How high are these sources within T-Mobile? CEO, Senior Vice-President? Or is this just tech level geeks who have to real information.

You may indeed be wrong since talks are already in the works between Sprint and T-Mobile. The $6 billion is a pittance in the cell provider world in the US and the German owners have made in abundantly clear that T-Mobile USA has to make a profit on its own. They are not a company I would invest money in.

As you will know polls are not allowed here so you may need to take your roundup somewhere else.

Are YOU a T-Mobile customer? Are you a T-Mobile customer with an iPhone?

This is incorrect information:

otherwise they would have also blocked the Femtocells which even T-Mobile used to use.

T-Mobile never issued Femtocells to its customers (at least not since I subscribed back in the mid 2000's). It did not need to issue them, as that is the whole point of UMA WiFi Calling! 🙂

I came to this thread because the OP, who clearly has English as a 2nd language, a differing culture (and possibly an attitude problem 🙂) was being piled up on because of his attempt to describe a serious issue to those subscribers of T-Mobile with an iPhone who need T-Mobile's UMA WiFi Calling capability.

My initial post was intended to restate the issue in a less controversial tone; but my mistake was calling Apple "the real villian here!"

There is a very vocal minority on this forum that snaps to attention whenever Apple is criticized; I think they used to call them "fanboys!" Why since my first purchase of the Apple ][, I am quite a fanboy myself! 🙂

There is clearly a basis for criticism of Apple's continued blocking of this technology for use by those of use T-Mobile subscribers who need UMA WiFi Calling. If we must get some blowback by the 'die-hard' Apple support fans, so be it.

I do not have to prove to a certainty my earlier statements: in a world of secrecy behind many of Apple's decisions, circumstancial evidence is enough. And I certainly do not have to prove it to a certainty to a non-T-Mobile customer, who has no skin in this game!

That all being said:

I live in Los Angeles; sorry if it does not show in my profile to third parties: LAX, while generally unknown as a term outside of Los Angeles when I obtained my screenname on AOL in 1989, it is now known as the international designation for Los Angeles.

I do have a gripe with T-Mobile and I continue to press it. That fact does not lessen my gripe with Apple.

There is also no point in debating issues that are irrelevant to the core issue of getting UMA WiFi Calling implemented on T-Mobile iPhone, such as:

• The location of the OP (or ME for that matter);

• The financial strength or lack thereof of any provider that sells iPhones;

• Whether or not there is any "legal" basis for our desire to implement UMA WiFi Calling.

At the end of the day, UMA WiFi Calling is a GREAT feature. T-Mobile dropped the ball on its marketing of this feature, as I am sure more customers who could use this feature would migrate to them if they had the knowledge that it exists!

On a related thread in this forum, the OP just informed me that she will probably go with the Samsung Galaxy G5, which she says does have this feature implemented (presumably through the Android app) and what does that anecdotal evidence tell you about Apple's continued marketshare slide in smartphones against Samsung?

Me: I just want this feature to work on my iPhone, because, after all, I am an Apple Fanboy! 😁

I do not have to prove to a certainty my earlier statements:

You have provided no doncumentation whatsoever that Apple is "blocking" anything related to this. It is clearly a fabrication - quite possible your's.

Are you trying to impersonate the classic Samsung drone-shill (including the typical claim to be an Applefan)? Do you think anyone here cares what the OP or yourself buys?

Los Angeles International Airport was (and still is) generally very well known all over the world as LAX since it was issued this Airport Identifier Code designation in 1947.

The city is known as Los Angeles or LA, not LAX.

But then, you seem to live there so you should already know this.
