This old Macbook works like a charm but the headphone jack no longer works. I'm a DJ at a radio station and often I play music from my laptop over the air. Is there an alternative to the headphone jack? Can the USB port somehow be used as an audio out?

Yes. You'll need a USB Audio interface such as those mentioned here. If you want more options a google search will turn up tons I am sure.
Be sure the interface will accept input from the computer via USB, not just send to the computer.
