Macbook pro cannot read my CF cards

I am using 10.7.5 I am using a USB 3.0 RAW STEEL UDMA reader and I cannot import any photos. I am getting a message that says the card cannot be read. It does not matter what brand card I use. The images are on my camera but when I try to import into lightroom or just find the drive in finder, they are not there. I format my cards in camera every time I use them. There is obviously something going on that is causing this problem with many photographers, as I have seen many other people having the same issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Stephen. I was trying to download some photos and videos from a SanDisk 32Gb and had a similar problem with a brand new 13 inch MB Pro that I just picked up a month ago. I'm running 10.9.4 version. I was using an iomega 50 in 1 card reader, model# GFR210. I inserted the card and plugged the reader in with no response on the MB. Tried to look for it in other places (utilities and finder) with no luck. I tried another iomega that I keep as a spare and this one just popped up on the desktop. I was able to access the card and download all my photos and videos on iPhoto without any issues. The card reader was an iomega 56 in 1 card reader model# GFR281. Hope this helps you out.

I would use the OS X System Information utility to explore the details of that Hoodman reader, and glean its firmware revision number. The Hoodman page for this reader has a (slow) link to their dropbox account that indicates that a firmware update is available. They don’t specify a version number, date, or the platform specifics for this update. I would email them with the information from the first sentence, and determine if the update applies to your reader, and if the firmware update can only be applied from MS Windows.
