Thank you for your detailed postings! I am also fighting the keychain login issue, after a (partially successful) restore of a TimeMachine backup. I am following your steps, starting with deleting the login keychain in Keychain Access, and deleted references only. Went to the ~/Library/Keychains folder and renamed the file login.keychain, but there is no "login_renamed_1.keychain" file? What did I miss?
I have been to the ~/Library/Keychains folder daily, deleting the folder with the long numerical name, per this article (http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5362), but that obviously is not working, so I'm hoping to make your fix work! Thanks!!
Hey APPLE ... this is a very serious problem!
Yes, it can be fixed on a case by case basis by going to the ~/Library/Keychains folder and deleting the folders, but I am managing a very large university network with tens of thousands of users. A permanent proactive fix needs to be done.
