How do I remove duckduckgo?
1. Open Safari
2. Delete all text from the URL field
3. Click on the little magnifying glass
4. Choose your search engine there
Fore some reason this doesn't work when I do it under Preferences, but it works this way.

From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall the "DuckDuckGo" extension.
I do not see duck duck in extensions either, in fact nothing at all. Under preferences/general and default search engine I can choose google or yahoo or any other but it makes no difference to duck duck popping up as the search engine. Any suggestions?
I can't even get to the Safari "Menu bar." DDG has hijacked everything and I"m not that computer literate. I've been in my applications.....nothing under safari and when I try to "open" safari I get DDG.
But i am not able to see it under extensions.
but the option comes in the default search engine
Poof gone! Whew!!!

Do you mean in the Smart Search field (AKA Address Bar)? If so, I suspect the only answer would be to install the extension again and then make sure that all its configuration check boxes are unchecked prior to uninstalling it again. That should restore your preferred search engine in Smart Search.
You are welcome. Do a backup, preferably 2 backups on 2 separate drives.
Quit Safari
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Select Library/Safari/Extensions - if DDG is listed, delete it.
Open Safari and test.

If that doesn't work for you, in Finder hold down the option/alt key while selecting the Go menu item. Select Library.
Hi Garry.
Had the same problem, using SeaMonkey (a Firefox derivative). Finally solved it this way.
> SeaMonkey tab (probably Firefox for you)
> Preferences
> Browser
> Internet Search
> Manage Search Engines (doesn't matter that you have Yahoo! or Google already picked as the default)
> Highlight "DuckDuckGo" and then click REMOVE.
That finally did the trick for me. Good luck.
Apple added this search engine option in 10.9.5.
You can choose between them in Safari preferences / General tab.
Thanks! it helped me too! DDG is gone!
GO to Safare tab, then preferences, then search, then select the Google tab
Yes!
