Mail connection to Outlook.com, was repeatedly asking for username/password, now will not connect

I was getting asked the password when connecting to outlook.com mail accounts.

Now I cannot connect at all ??

I have a number of different company outlook.com email accounts, and I know the password works fine, as I can login to Outlook.com just fine,

But now in Mavericks mail, I cannot connect at all.

I have warning symbol next to account inbox, which shows message:

Unable to open "<OUTLOOK EMIL ADDRESS>"

Mail was unable to open this mailbox on the server “imap.glbdns2.microsoft.com”.

The server returned the error: Select Command is not permitted in current state (NotAuthenticatedServerError)

When I run connection doctor, against these accounts I get.

Trying to log in to this IMPA account failed. Verify that the username and password are correct.

Any ideas on what has gone wrong ? and how I can fix this.

I have now checked on outlook and can see in the 'Recent Activity' that I am getting successful sign-in via IMAP ?

Why then does mac mail not recognised this?

I have reset the password on outlook.com, and cleared out the keychain, but still get same issue.

The other thing that is really confusing me, is I have 4 email addresses on the one domain, through outlook.com

2 are working fine

2 are failing.

The same thing happened to me this morning. I only have one outlook.com account in Apple Mail - set up as an IMAP account. The error reads:

Mail was unable to open this mailbox on the server “imap.glbdns2.microsoft.com”.

The server returned the error: Select Command is not permitted in current state (NotAuthenticatedServerError)

Hotmail is one of the most popular email clients in the world. It's sad that Apple and Microsoft can't figure this out.

Problem doesn't seem to be Apple related. I've got (almost) the same problem in Windows and outlook.

List Command is not permitted in current state (NotAuthenticatedServerError)

Seems more like Outlook.com/Microsoft is having a problem and it's been going on for a few hours.

Actually it IS the same error. I get the following pop-up:

'The server returned the error: Select Commando is not permitted in current state (NotAuthenticatedServerError)'
