Hello. Why are there large spaces in my document? How can I get rid of them?

One of my paragraphs is cut in half, halfway down the page, and continues on the next. I didn't request this, and not sure how to make it re-join.

I have deleted the 'gap' or 'space' between the last word on one page, and the first word on the other, but all that happens is that one word joins the other, but the big gap remains.

I have had this happen several times to me: when I have converted a Word doc. to a pages document, and just stating a fresh document, although with a bit of copying/cutting/pasting going on.

Is anybody able to help?

I would be most grateful.

Hello Peter, well, as this is a working document, it seemed to disappear as I continued to add text in another part of the document. However, this is still occuring in another document. However this time it is not a blue dot (space) but a return. I have attached a screen shot of this problem. Ultimately it is the same. When I delete the return the p.63 goes down to the text below. As I delete each thing it all drops down to join the main paragraph below, but leaves this huge gap above.

I suspect you have set Keep with next paragraph and Prevent widows and orphans.

Select all the text and turn them off:

Format > Text > More > Pagination & Break > uncheck Keep with next paragraph /Prevent widows and orphans

Menu > View > Show Layout/Invisbles

It sort of sounds like it is wrapping around a floating object.

Sorry Peter, there is nothing but a blue dot, which appears after the last word on the top half of the paragraph. Then a big blank space.

It sounds like that but there is nothing there. And when I double click on the space it highlights the paragraph, top and bottom.

Have you tried deleting the blue dot?

Can you post a screensnap of the document:

command shift 4 and drag over the area > image is saved to desktop > post here using the camera icon
