That you question has gone 24 hours without a response likely indicates that you haven't included enough detail for anyone to understand the question well enough to investigate and offer a solution.

Please post a reply that includes the version number of your operating system, the version number of Numbers, and any activity you observe after clicking the icon in addition to the spinning beachball.

Find the OS version by clicking the Apple at the far left of your Menu bar and choosing About this Mac.

Find th Numbers version by locating the Numbers application in your Applications folder. Click on Numbers in that location, then press command-I to Get Info. The version number will be listed in the top section of the Info window.

I skipped it because I had no idea what "not able to access... the numbers icon" or what "the icon on the top tool bar" means.

What is "the top toolbar"? Is that the menu bar in Finder (except there are no Numbers icons there) or is it the toolbar in the Numbers app (except it sounds like Numbers won't open, I think) or is it the dock (except that is at the bottom of the screen, not the top).

What is meant by "not able to access [the numbers icon]" when in the following sentence it can be clicked on?

I'm not trying to be rude but I have absolutely no idea what is being asked.
