Can my MacBook Air play graphic-intensive games?

The MacBook Air has got an integrated GPU that it is not designed for games, and less for intensive games like the ones you say. To be able to run them, you will probably have to select low settings, and you can be sure that your MacBook Air will overheat.

If you want a Mac to play games, I recommend you to go for the 15-inch MacBook Pro or the iMac. The most expensive MacBook Pro includes a dedicated GPU that will allow you to play games at medium or high settings, and most iMacs except the cheapest iMac have got dedicated GPUs too.

Hi there.I read these comments and it looks like you know a bit on this topic of playing graphic-intensive games.I have a MacBook Air Mid 2013 13",with the 1.3 GHz Intel Core i5, 4GBRAM 1600MHz DDR3,Intel HD Graphics 5000 1536 MB.I am curious to see if some of the game titles i hear about that are compatible with X-Box and Playstation are compatible with my MacBook Air.I am finding that i can't find any of the good games that are compatible with Mac systems.It's maybe what Skyraptor said,it just hasn't got the juice for these games.Do you know if this is true and if not,what do i have to do to play these games on my MacBook Air?

For example:Resident Evil 7:Biohazard and Mass Effect:Andromeda come to mind.

Not without help from an eGPU. A good solution is the 4th generation Vidock. It will connect through Thunderbolt, cost $100 and it'll be released in the summer.

And eGPU is an external graphics card.

By the way a graphics card is the part of a computer that figures out how to display something on a screen. For example, if your character throws a ball, the graphics card figures out how fast the ball should move and how to display it. Your MacBook Air doesn't have a dedicated graphics card, it just has a processor which is capable of functioning as a modest graphics card.

The fourth generation Vidock is an external graphics card enclosure. It allows you to connect a desktop graphics card such as GT 640, GTX 650 or Radeon 7970 graphics cards. The 4th generation Vidock will connect to your Mac through Thunderbolt.

Super late reply, but I figured I would chime in from someone who may still have this question and/or is in the market for a new Macbook Air. I own the Early 2015 11'' Air, with the 2.2GHz i7 Processor, 8GB RAM, and 500GB SSD, and play games often on it. Most recently, I have been playing Borderlands 2 through Steam with a PS4 controller. I have very few to no issues with lag, loading or anything worth mentioning. I can even have Dirt 2 that I downloaded from the app store that runs very smoothly at medium to high settings. I have noticed that with racing games such as this and Grid 2, there tends to be a little lag either if I have processes running in the background or if I have settings turned up too high. If that happens, I either kill background processes, or just lower the video settings and I'm good to go. The laptop does get VERY WARM and will kick on fans if I play for extended periods of time, so I make sure that its elevated and near a fresh source of cool air if possible.
