epson perfection scanner error -9930

I have an Epson Perfection 2450 Photo scanner that worked perfectly until my OX system was updated to v.10.8.5. Now when I try to scan, the scanner warms up and starts to work and then I get an error that reads "com.apple.imagecapturecore error -9930". I can't get the darn thing to work. I searched online but what I found is from 2010-2011 so I am not sure if those fixes will help.

Any advice on how to fix this would be great!

MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2012), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.5)

Thanks so much for the tips. Resetting the printing system is the only thing that worked, but only for a few scans. When I turned off the scanner after I was done and then tried to use it again a few days later, my computer did not recognize that the scanner was plugged in. Tried restarting, using a different USB plug, a different USB port and nothing works. I tried using Image Capture, Preview and even Photoshop, none seem to recognize that the scanner is plugged in. Tried upgrading to Mavericks v.10.9.3 to see if that would work, but nothing.

Is it time to throw this scanner away and get another one? I use it to scan negatives, transparencies and art but don't have a huge budget so I was hoping to get this to work.
