Google maps has stopped working in Safari

Within the last week, Google Maps has stopped working in Safari 6.1.1. It previously worked fine. The page starts to load, and then hangs. It displays the small rectangle that says "loading...". I have tried deleting Safari preferences. This had no effect. Any suggestions?

I'm running Mavericks on a mini Mac.
Google Maps has not loaded for me in the last few weeks in ANY BROWSER.
I do a bit of web development so I have the usual Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Opera
Not one will load google maps with any degree of reliability. Occasionally if I leave the tab open and go do something else for a good long while, when I return to the machine I find that it has eventually loaded.

I think this is a good example of "if it ain't broke - don't fix it"

Check with your Internet Service Provider. It is possible that your ISP is blocking certain Google IP addresses. My ISP tech support section wrote to me today:

----------

"Some of the Google IP addresses were on our inbound filter lists because they were caught scanning SIP on our system. It appears that Google -- when you access certain functions -- turns around and scans your IP address."

----------

So your ISP may be able to fix the problem.

I looked here seeking a solution with regard to running Google Maps on Safari, and others may have different circumstances for it not working, but here's the situation I have:

  • Google Maps doesn't work in Safari (Version 7.0.3 (9537.75.14)); yet
  • Google Maps works fine in Chrome (Version 35.0.1916.69 beta); and
  • Google Maps works fine in Firefox (Version 28.0).

For what it is worth, it doesn't matter which DNS numbers I use, whether it's the Google DNS numbers I typically use or the numbers automatically provided by my ISP.

I was thinking that maybe this is Apple's way of getting people to use their Map app, I'll just use Chrome instead.

Just as an FYI, I have also found that maps.google.com has stopped functioning in Safari. Version 7.1 (9537.85.10.17.1) is what I have with the latest OS.

The base map appears but typing anything, clicking, etc. yield no action. I CAN zoom in and out. A yellow box displays Loading... but nothing happens when trying to do an actual search for a location. The text appears but hitting Enter or clicking the Search icon do nothing.

My Safari has been reset before and it really does not make sense to me why DNS would be involved in hitting Enter on text in a box.

One thing I will check is that I have a security setting that prevents Flash from running on web sites automatically. Most new pages that try to run flash show a "Trust?" dialog box but no such dialog appears in the case of the maps page. In the meantime the same maps do work in Firefox.

I am successfully using http://maps.bing.com in Safari.
