Connecting iPod Nano to USB port in my car...

Help! I can't figure out why, when I connect my USB cord to the reception area in my car stereo, my iPod merely says "Do Not Disconnect" and the stereo says USB play, but there is no music coming out.

Dell, Windows XP

My ipod nano will not play through the USB cable on my 'ipod ready' car stereo. I think it is coz my files are saved as AAC files not MP3 and thats what the stereo recongises. How do i change this, as you say in previous comments that ipod selects AAC files as a default?
Please help, everyones else i know can play their ipod on my car stereo, just not me!!!
Any one know what to do???

EDIT: You're right, it might be looking for the Mp3, and the format might not be compatible.

You need to read the directions n how to operate it.
Note that any music purchased thru the iTunes Music store will NOT play on the stereo thru the USB port.
Also it is probably looking for MP3 files. The default for the iPod is AAC.

Is there any way to convert the way my files are saved?

Also, the Nano didn't come with any operating manual, I've been reading it all on the Apple site but there seems to be nothing there to describe how to connect.

I meant you need to read the directions for the stereo on how to operate it with the USB connection.

And yes, you received a manual with your iPod, It is on the CD.

I've had an RCA mp3 player attached to the USB port in my car and have never had any problems with it, but the iPod just doesn't want to work so far.
