Arghhhh I really pinned all my hopes on your solution to this nightmare but still nothing happens other than this message which is driving me mad already. Your Apple ID "..." can't be used to set up iMessage at this time.

will try more but also wanted to say, i'm with you on the above thread. people that don't offer anything useful can shove it!

same here. just upgraded to Yosemite and FaceTime and Messages won't work on MBP. Works fine on iOS8 iPad. sends a prompt to call applecare at $19.99 per call !

"Your Apple ID "xxxxxx@aol.com" can't be used to set up iMessage at this time. If this is a new Apple ID, you do not need to create another one. To use this Apple ID with iMessage, contact iMessage support with the code below."

I Solved this issue today by calling them but avoided the chargse as there are two exceptions You could choose from. I choose the one that said something about a problem after installing new software. Did you have those options? iMessage and FaceTime now working without a glitch. Gave the operator that code and it was solved within a matter of seconds. Good luck!

i was told they take identity issues seriously and this was something to do with that. I was asked if my id was shared with someone else such as in an office or with more people and after saying that I don't..he did something from his end and I was told to try log in again at which point it worked.

Hope this helps.

And btw

I don't recommend deleting any other files as suggested in other posts above! if you are unaware of how the system works yourself...you never know what you delete and whether this leaves your Mac vulnerable in any way!! Just my opinion.

Good luck!

Upgraded to Yosemite...deleted items in ~/Library/IdentityServices folder....logged out and back in.....tried to sign into Message app. Now instead of getting the error message back, the spinning wheel just goes on perpetually (well, 10 minutes now) after entering Apple ID/password.....

"Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

~/Library/IdentityServices

Right-click or control-click the line and select

Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)

from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. Log out or restart the computer, empty the Trash, and test.

*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select

Go ▹ Go to Folder...

from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

Basically drag the items in the identityservices folder to trash log out, log back in, empty trash, start messages or facetime!!"

This helped me. The problem started when I changed my Apple password. However, I still have trouble not consistently receiving texts that I get on my phone on imessage. And I previously was able to text people that I can't text now (to their phone numbers) because they are "not on imessage" which doesn't make sense, as they were before. So not sure the prob. is completely fixed. So many bugs with the updates, really upsetting.
