iPod Touch "Synch Session failed to start message"

I I have an iPod Touch 5. It's running IOS 7.0.4 The Software for iTunes is the latest 11.4.1. My iPod has suddenly stopped synching with the message, "The iPod could not be synched because the synch session failed to start." iTunes does recognize my iPod. Everything else is working fine so far in that I can purchase items from iTunes, but only on my Mac and not the iPod, and listen to them. My iTunes Library is on a Macbook laptop which has all the updated software. What can I do to resolve this issue? It's driving me crazy and I know several people in the same boat.
