I have a new Apple TV. The HDMI Port on the TV is physically bigger than that on the Apple TV. Is there a special cable ??????

Again, you are looking at the wrong port! The small port is for a micro USB connection, used for restoring the device via iTunes. It uses the standard HDMI port, which is just above. There is no numbering on the unit and it would be irrelevant, on your TV it has more than one input (ie HDMI 2, HDMI 3) so it is numbered for that reason.
Thanks vazandrew....................Im starting to feel like a dummy. The "metal" around the TV HDMI creates the illusion is is bigger when it actually is not. See the ATV in my hand, against the TV port ??.

this was me EXACTLY lol! I've spent 20 min searching online for verification of the correct HDMI cable and all this time it's a standard size connector but it looks smaller on ATV because every other HDMI device I have has the metal casing which makes it look much bigger.
This thread has solved this for me hehe.
Thanks for helping. It seems the ATV is not a standard HDMI, its a mini HDMI & the TV is a standard HDMI so now i can look for the right cable.

As already stated, HDMI is a consistent size, unless we are talking miniHDMI. The ATV uses the standard HDMI sized connector.
Either something is seriously wrong with the tv or the user is looking at the incorrect port.
Now I am stuck..............The port on the ATV is very small. The Ports on both the Samsung TV and also on the Yamaha Amp/Reciever are quite a lot bigger but the same general shape.
Apples Tech Specs for the ATV Generation3 call its port an HDMI2. TV calls it an HDMI IN3

My HDMI problem is well past but the Apple TV still does not work. It accuses my TV of not having HDCP Compatibility & suggests all kinds of cures.
My Apple TV is now piled up with other Tech rubbish I have bought over the years which has let me down & I buy movies from the DVD shop.

HDMI is a standard size, what Model is your TV?
Its a Samsung model NA46N81BX/Rad.......It bears a logo 1080P Full HD...........The HDMI port is marked HDMI IN 3. Purchased circa 2008. Its the same shape as the port on the Apple TV but bigger ???
There must be more than one HDMI port, do you have other devices connected via HDMI? Some TVs also have other inputs. Refer to your manual to ensure you are looking at the right port.
That is incorrect. It is a standard HDMI port. Either there is something wrong with your Tv or you're looking at the wrong port as noted above, refer to your manual
Did you ensure the TV is HDCP compliant? Did you try another cable and port?
