Restore to factory settings w/ psc keyboard

My brother gave me hias old mac mini. I am trying to restore to factory settings with pc keyboard. I have read that i should be pressing either alt or windows ket +R or cntrl + R, either before or after chime. The only thing that does anything other than boot is pressing alt key before chime.

This brings me to a graphic of hard drive with arrow below it. I have been unable to get anywhere from here. If I click on graphic or arrow, computer boots; any other thing i do does nothing.

It really cannot be that hard. Please advise.

Normally the Windows key passes for CMD key on Mac, but not always.

But, 10.5.8 has no Restore Partition to boot from, not even 10.6 does, that came with 10.7 & higher. 🙂

If you don't have the 10.5 Install Disc to boot from hold c or alt key, then see this...

Starts up like the first time you buy a new Mac, but after filling in all that info again, you should have access to the computer and the other Users & files will still be there... give the new User a different name than an existing one.
