Home screen do not rotate.

To test if rotation works, use Photos, Messages or Mail app.

I have the same problem with an iphone 5S, read through all the support documentation, fiddled with the rotate unlock, restarted ny phone many times, and backed it up, restored the iphone, backed it up again, restored it again.....IN OTHER WORDS this still does not work.

Did you do a reset?

First off thnx for trying to help, it's nice to not be treated like an idiot who can't click on "troubleshoot" and find out about "portrait lock". That being said I have reset, restarted, left my phone off for days, tried leaving it locked for a while to see if it would undo. I did everything I could think of before I did a hard reset and deleted everything on my phone, only to find that the problem still exists.

Only apps that exclusively work in portrait mode will flip the image but it doesn't affect anything outside the app.

I'm also having a couple of other problems. Should I take my phone to Apple?

No apps can affect anything outside the apps. That is the security designed (app runs only in a sandboxed)

Yes, take it in to Apple, make an appointment first so you don't have to wait.

I'm having the same problem with my 5s. No, the orientation is not locked. It did it a couple times intermittently, but exiting the app or powering off always fixed it. Now it's stuck - nothing will turn to landscape mode. I've tried resets and even a restore and nothing. I saw there was an issue in the fall with the accelerometer, but that was supposedly addressed with an IOS update. I have an appointment at the genius bar this weekend and hope they will be able to do something.

I scheduled an appointment at my local genius bar and confirmed the locked screen was an internal accelerometer warranty issue. They immediately replaced my iphone within 5 minutes at the genius bar. The customer service was superb. I have sympathy that warranty problems occur and was impressed with the response. While sitting at the genius bar, I restored my iphone with the backup and was up-and-running again with a 30 minute time investment.

I just started having the exact same issue 2 days ago except mine gets stuck in landscape mode which makes it very hard to use the message app. My camera is also stuck.

I do not have the screen lock turned on.

If I completely turn the phone off and turn it back on it works for a little while.

Mine is a iPhone 5 so it is out of warranty now. I'm wondering is this was from the latest update.

Swipe up from the bottom of the screen and it will bring up the control panel. On the top right side is the rotation lock/unlock button. Hope this helps.

It seems that there is a problem with some 5S phones. They will all be within warranty, so the best solution is to do a full backup and take back to Apple for a replacement.
