Zero-length in-use app cannot be deleted

I had a problem with .mobilebackups.trash not being deleted automatically. So I manually deleted the folder. In the Trash, after I emptied it, I found several of the subdirectories contain a copy of CrashPlan.app. Each of these copies is zero bytes in length, is locked, and cannot be deleted. I can unlock an instance it it immediately becomes locked. When to force-empty the trash I get messages that the app(s) are "in use". I've force quit the CrashPlan processes, and that causes no change.

I want to get this cruft out of the trash. How?

Hello korm,

It sounds like you are unable to empty the Trash on you MacBook Air. I recommend the following resources for the issue you described:
