GarageBand won't let me set the project length less than 7 measures

GarageBand won't let me set the project length less than 7 measures

I'm using GarageBand '11 on OS X Mavericks. I know how to change the length of the project by dragging that purple triangle. But I want to export very short (1-2 seconds) audio files and GB stops the purple triangle from setting the project length below the end of the 7th bar. How can I fix this?

Use the cycle region to mark the part that you want to export:

To show the cycle region, press the button with the two blue chasing arrows.
