21.5 inch iMac yellow screen issue

I have a late 2012 iMac (21.5inch). I thought 21.5 models were immune to this issue, but I noticed bottom half of the screen is showing some yellow tint compared to upper half. I thought it was due to the angle of the screen and lighting in my room but that changed when I put my MacBook pro right next to my iMac. Compared to my mid 2009 MacBook Pro, the iMac's screen has a definite yellower time to it..

How much will it cost to replace the screen to eliminate the yellow tint? Please, no replies about taking my iMac to Apple store or calling them. I've already called several different Apple stores, and they have no idea. And please, no Applecare answers or "expensive" answers. I just want exact numbers.

The in-store inspection, product specialist or in-house expert, then technical testing to diagnose the exact cause of the issue, then if done in-house, a repair sequence initiated with an open estimate on what replacement parts would actually be needed, could alter the original best-guess somewhat.

A simple backlight or inverter issue may be all that is causing the symptom. Nobody can simply give you a base price of one size fits all. They will not just 'replace a display' since the panel is more than just one part. If a voltage variation is the cause of partial tint or backlight color, then that will be part of the inspection and diagnosis; this may be in a shop for weeks.

Please stick to one question on the same topic

You appear to have an issue with Apple, so there are

a few good links to their main web site. You can go

and Locate an authorized service nearby, contact an

Apple authorized representative, etc, there. We who

reply here have no direct connection, nor do we have

any authority, cannot cite prices or give quotes, etc.

And our time is our own, individually. We're not Apple.

You will have to contact Apple. You have a computer.

I will not do that for you, from my residence, half a

world away where I have no more access to a Store

than a moose, or a ptarmigan, outside my door.

Good luck.

Your topic thread and posts are being reported.

"Inappropriate." We cannot give you a reply.

even if we were authorized to give you an

exact dollars & cents quote on a new Display,

since the display is likely not the problem.

It would be terrible business practice, too.

And against Terms of Use in ASC. The

level of speculation you want, is incorrect.

Knock yourself out. this may void your warranty

Good luck & happy computing! 🙂

Again, there must be people who have paid to fix the screen. My question was directed towards those people. Yes I already called Apple well before I posted this.

My question was simple. People on this forum made it complicated. No, I don't have water damage on my iMac. Yes, I know what Applecare is. And no, I'm not afraid to use Applecare. No, I don't have issue with Apple. Most of all, yes, I know it is "pricey" to fix it. But how much is that "pricey?"

I'm in no hurry to fix my screen as I have 2 years of Applecare coverage remaining. So I won't casually take my iMac to Applestore just to find out how much it would cost to fix it.

Oh man... Have you actually thought about what you're saying?

I know you cannot give a reply because I know you didn't spend your own money to fix your iMac screen.

As for.. " the display is likely not the problem." Well, I know there are multiple components that could be causing the yellow screen issue. By "fixing the display," I meant every single component and labor process.

Again, it is a very simple question asked to those who had to pay to fix the screen, which doesn't include you. You didn't have to reply if you hadn't known any more than I know.

I will keep posting until someone who has fixed the screen sees my post, and gives me an answer.

The display is not the problem, really;

because you have the answer & refuse

to be inconvenienced by using it timely.

{A replacement display plus labor & testing

if you paid for all of it, could equal about

the same as a dental crown repair.}

When the AppleCare coverage went away,

I know of several iMac 21.5/24/27" owners

who balk at replacing LCDs, after 3 years.

Best of luck. St Pat's day is coming up! 🙂

When my screen on my "way out of warrenty" Powerbook G4 Ti died, I asked, "How much to repair it?"

The tech guy handed me a new Powerbook and said, "about the same as purchasing this."

Your question is like asking in a car forum on the internet, "My car runs poorly, how much will it cost me to fix it?"

Whatever people tell you is what it cost THEM to have it fixed, not what it will cost you to have it repaired.

If nothing else, this thread has enormous enterainment value/future potential.

"mrq0604 , You Say:

"I'm in no hurry to fix my screen as I have 2 years of Applecare coverage remaining. So I won't casually take my iMac to Applestore just to find out how much it would cost to fix it. "

To answer your question simply .... This is the purpose of why you bought AppleCare ..... to keep your Apple product under warranty in case of a hardware failure, which is what it sounds like you have (aka Yellowish screen ). Surely it doesn't cost anything to ask your AppeCare questions.

Unless you have damaged your Apple product yourself , your cost for repair will be $O .... The repair will be FREE as long as it is under AppleCare warranty.

Personally I have found that the AppleCare Center in my area (Fla. ) is more than eager to answer questions and do repairs to their products. Their service has been fast and dependable every time I have had the need for repairs..... no matter how small or large.

May I suggest that you find their services unsatisfactory at the Center you have been going to, then I'm sure there is other Centers in your area. Never-the-less, personally I would take my Apple product in for service ASAP....... you can't get it repaired for a cost less than FREE. If you Actually call one of the Centers in your area, they will freely explain your AppleCare coverage to you.
