How do I close apps on my I phone 4?

Double tap the home button, then swipe upwards on the App Preview (not the App Icon). Tap the home button again to return to normal screen.

Double tap on the home button to bring up the multi-tasking list. Then swipe upwards on the thumbnail of the app to bring it off the screen. That closes it.
