1791.com e-mail set up problem

Last fall I signed up for the 1791.com e-mail address. I have made several attempts to set up my 1791.com on my MacBook Pro. I have gone through all of the steps in their guides. I have entered the password xxxxxxx which is provided in my account and it says it's not valid. So I entered the password xxxxxxx, which is the password I use to log into my 1791.com e-mail address online. Again it says the password doesn't work. How can it not work in my "Mail" program when it works fine online. I live 45 minutes from the closest Apple store. Out of frustration I have driven there on 2 separate occasions asking them for help in the hopes that they can figure out what the problem is. Still no luck. I am at a loss. I have followed all the instructions to the letter of the law and still nothing. This the error

window that keeps popping up. No matter what password I enter, it doesn't work. Any ideas? I have contacted the 1791.com e-mail support people but they just keep pointing me to the online tutorial that I have gone over with a fine tooth comb and it just doesn't work.

Password: YOUR 1791 EMAIL PIN You will find your email pin by clicking the

Desktop & Mobile Setup button in the upper right hand corner of the screen of your 1791 email inbox

Yes. I entered the pin/password and it came back with the "can't connect" screen. So I entered the password that I use to log into the mail account via my browser and again got the "can't connect" screen. I am so beyond frustrated. I just wanted a new email account and can't seem to get it figured out. And being a Mac, it's usually as simple as ABC. Thank you again in advance for your assistance.

From the Mail menu bar, select

Window ▹ Connection Doctor

Click the Show Detail button. A drawer opens. Click Check Again and post the text that appears. Anonymize any personal information before posting.

Thank you for you trying to help. I have reviewed the instructions at least 5 times and gone step by step and still nothing. I have done everything but beg the 1791.com people to help and they keep saying the same thing. 2 times to the Apple store and they haven't been able to help either. I think the next time I'm up that way I am going to ask for a person who deals specifically with e-mail set up. Thanks again for taking a look at this.

I meant, please review the instructions for posting the information I requested. You didn't follow them. However, I think you may want to reconsider whether it's worth the trouble. There are plenty of other mail-service providers.

You entered "smtp.1791..com" as the server address. Try "smtp.1791.com".

Again, the fresh set of eyes helped. I made the necessary changes and this is the diagnotic just now. The first screen shot is my computer set up. The second screen shot is the "instructions" from 1791.com. Either I am the dumbest person to ever set up an e-mail address or they've got issues.

You're connecting to the server, but it rejects your credentials. I suggest you launch the Keychain Access application and delete any password items with "secure.emailsrvr.com" or "1791" in the name. The next time you try to connect, you'll be prompted for the password. Enter the one the instructions say is correct. That's apparently not the same one you use to log in to the website.

If you still can't get it to work, either the instructions are wrong or the problem is at the server end.
