Thank you for that link where you explain on how to request an exception, it might be the only option for the (I'm guessing hundreds from what I've seen) users experiencing this problem.
I tried the blow dryer method and it worked, which means it is a hardware problem. For how long it will work - I have no idea. The thing is, like you said, I had no idea I had a problem with my wifi chip up untill now.
Do you know if it's possible to change the wifi chip through apple? How much would it cost? Or are they going to tell me to replace the whole phone?
To the other people with a 4s, if you want to avoid this happening to you, I guess your only option is NOT to update your iphone software. I could never imagine that by doing so, the chip would reveal to be defective, so if you want to have a working wifi, just don't update it and try not to overwhelm your phone lol.
I've read a lot of people here saying apple should take responsability and not blame it on the user, I agree with that to some extent, but let's be rational about this. If you had no idea you had a defective wifi chip, then yes, there's no one to blame really, and try to ask for an exception. How can you be responsible for something you didn't know was going on? One thing I would like though, would be for apple to acknowledge this is an issue and, I don't know, maybe inform people that this might happen if you update your phone's software? Make it official, just like in medicines where most people won't experience side effects, but a "small" percentage of them will.
