iphone won't turn on past apple logo, can't restore. HELP

All of a sudden tonight, my iphone 4s restarted, but it only got to the apple logo screen, then restarted again. It was doing that repeatedly every 10 seconds or so for the last few hours. The only thing I could do was turn it off completely but only if it wasn't plugged in. If I plugged it into a power source it kept restarting and I couldn't even turn it off. But turning it off didn't do anything anyway because when I turned it on again it just continued doing the same restart cycle. I tried a reset, which had no effect at all. I tried to do a complete restore using itunes, several times. It starts to restore but then I get a message "The iphone (iphone) could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (9)." I made sure itunes and OS X were up to date, restarted my computer, and tried again a few times with the same failed result. And now the phone doesn't continually loop through the apple logo. Instead, after the apple logo, it shows the connect-to-itunes screen (in order to do a restore, but like I said, that doesn't work) and stays on that screen for a minute until it turns off. (But again, if I leave it plugged in, it doesn't stay off. It keeps turning back on and it stays at the connect-to-itunes screen until I turn it off.)

So I don't know what options I have left. As far as I can tell, I have a brick that lights up with an apple logo or itunes logo.

One thing that did happen earlier today that could be related: I tried to update my iphone (I believe I have 7.0.4 and it was updating to 7.0.6?) but something weird happened during the update (can't remember exactly) and I ended up having to restart my phone without it finishing the update. It wouldn't let me update after that, which I didn't really care about, so I just left it with the ios version I had. Then later in the evening this happened.

One other small thing to note (probably insignificant)-- When the phone kept going through the apple logo loop, right before the screen went black and it restarted, the apple logo would grow dim and there was sometimes a horizontal line across the screen, then it went to black.

If anybody has any ideas, please help! It would be much appreciated. I don't want to have to buy a new phone so soon. Apple products are supposed to have a long life span! And I've never jailbroken it or done anything out of the ordinary.

Thank you! I've been messing with a working iPhone 4s on and off for over 12 hours because it just showed the 'connect to iTunes' screen after I first attempted to restore it to factory defaults. Every time after that the extraction process would take forever and the phone wouldn't be found by the time it got done. I was beginning to worry that it might be bricked after reading some of the comments here. All I did was simply..

Unplug phone > close iTunes > turn off Avast and Zone Alarm > load iTunes > plug in phone

Now it's restoring perfectly. Thanks!

Hi guys,

So I have been without my iPhone 5S for about 17 hours and it's really starting to frustrate me.

This is what happened... I was listening to music thru my phone doing whatever I'm supposed to be doing and I decided I wanted to check Twitter, once i did, my phone started freezing up here and there. I thought, okay maybe I should just restart. Once I restarted, I found it strange that it brought me back to my lock screen right away when usually during restart, it takes quite a while. So I logged in and saw that Snapchat and Picsart were the apps trying to update. As I paused picsart's updating, my phone seemed faster like it wasn't freezing. i decided that maybe I should just delete these apps, so as I tried to delete picsart, it wouldn't leave my dashboard, I kept trying and trying to delete it but it kept asking me if I was sure if I wanted to delete it. After a while it froze up again and I thought... okay one more restart, as I restarted, it right away took me to the lock screen again and once i put in my touch ID, it froze and didn't want to take me into my phone at all. I must remind you, (Since all i have been reading in this forum about battery problems) my phone was at 97% and was charging during all this happenings (I did unplug it after the last retry of restarting). It froze and I thought, okay, I'll just turn it off, so after freezing it wouldn't let me into my phone but it let me turn off my phone, and so I slid it into off. I waited for about 2-3 minutes knowing that turning on your iPhone should take a while, and after 10 mins, it still wouldn't go past the white Apple logo. No flashing involved, just Apple logo as if you are waiting for it to restart. I tried restart again and turned it on and it was there for 30+ mins.

I've read forums saying to put it into DFU Mode, but I can't trust myself and I don't want to mess it up even more than it already is at this point. I'm not sure if i should go to my local T-Mobile or to schedule an appointment for the Apple Store, can someone please let me know what's going on?! thank you! &&& sorry this is so so so late and at the end of this thread
