DSR-11 hookup

OK, I'm going to be ordering the DSR-11 cuz I can't afford a $2500 DSR-25 and, along with other research on this forum, don't want the Panasonic or JVC (had bad experiences with the JVC 3000). But those discussions are covered in other threads.

ANYWAY, I'm wondering what other cables/cords I need to hook this up. It's only going to the computer (don't have an NTSC monitor yet). Is it just the same firewire that is used to go from the camera to the computer (small DV on one end, Firewire 400 on other end)? And I was looking at a pic of the back...where does it plug in?

Thanks in advance.

Jonathan, you are right, the same FW400 cable that you use to connect your DV camera and a computer is used to connect SONY DSR-11. Power adapter for the VCR is included in the package. When you buy an NTSC monitor you will need more cables to connect it through the deck to your computer (you can use the deck as analog/digital converter). The back side picture of the deck can be found here:

The FW cable goes into the socket marked DV IN/OUT.

I don't know if you have other firewire drives or not, but you would be advised, if you do, to get a firewire PCI (whatever flavor your G5 needs) so that you are not running the deck and say a couple of firewire 800 drives on the same bus. Decks are a lot slower than drives, and depending on how you plug them all together can slow your throughput considerably.

Many people do it anyway, but hey for 100 bucks you'll be a very happy camper.

Thanks, guys...

Jim: I've got a 2.0 Dual G5 here at work (purchased about 4 months ago). Don't have any other firewire drives hooked up to it (although I have a portable 60GB Firewire 400 I use on and off...but it's not hooked up permanently). Don't know much about PCI cards in the first place (yet), so I'll take this under advisement and keep it "in the vault" for future reference.

Thanks to both of ya for the quick responses!

Jonathan
