Everything worked fine until i did the uprade. No problems during the upgrading process, but as soon as the new software was installed, my iPad 3 kept rebooting every 3 minutes. Restoring the iPad in recovery mode did not help. Same problem occurs even during the set-up process. I wish I had not done the upgrade...

Has the unit EVER been jailbroke?
I bought the device second-hand, but when I received it, it was not jailbroken and I did not jailbreak it.
Well, make sure that you did Recovery Mode properly. If so, then you have a hardware problem and you need to contact Apple.
Go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here. You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without be charged again. Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

Thanks for your help. Even after I restored the software of my iPad by means of
the Recovery mode, the problem of frequent reboots is not solved. What is more,
now I cannot activate my device anymore. It constantly says that it cannot get
access to the activation servers...
I wished there was a way to turn back time to the moment before I did this upgrade.
Everything went fine then.
I will contact Apple and hope they can help me with this issue.
Apple replaced my device. Problem solved.
