battery drain on 7.0.6

Since I upgraded to 7.0.6 my battery drains at an alarming rate. Since 8:00 this morning I have made one call and checked email - the battery is now 51% after 2 hours! This was fine before the update.

I have cloased all apps - still have exactly the same issue. Phone gets hot now when screen is on suggestiig the processor is doing a lot of work.

Is it possible to downgrade back to 7.0.4 (I was on 7.0.4 before the update)?

Do you have this same test with 7.05? Does the battery life change with Siri off in 7.05? Without this data, I don't see how you can say it's a Siri problem. That's my point. Especially since this thread is about 7.06 battery life, not Siri. I don't think I've read anywhere in this thread that there is a specific feature that is causing this battery issue, other than it seems to be related to the 7.06 update.

No, I did not have the problem in 7.05, so I didn't see the point in testing anything...

No, it doesnt - otherwise I had to find out to switch it off sooner...

yeah, my bad, sorry, I am not trying to make 'a point' here, I looked into a problem for almost three months and thought, it helps others to know what helped me... just plain real life, no rhetorics class,... (and no offense intended)

but that is precisely when it started, with the 7.06 update.

see, I see your point, but it is theory, opposite to my facts. I admit, there may be a lot of other things wrong with iOS 7.xx (unfortunately you are right here)... but I have two phones on my desk, which drastically improved their battery life after I switched SIRI off... and I think it is worth a try.

Do YOU actually have a phone with battery issues? What exactly did you try and what did you not try? If yes, it would not hurt you to switch SIRI off for a couple of hours and compare the drain... then you know.

Or maybe you guys talk about drains, which reduce the power/performance time from 'two days' to 'one and a half days' ... then I guess you are right, and my attempt doesn't fit your problem...

my SIRI workaround made the phones work again for 36 hrs. at least, and with SIRI on they died after 5 hours... what can be more obvious than that? I can let everything else be switched on, even Background Updates (which the Apple Store geniuses let you switch off first, as the standard approach/excuse for a fast battery drain)...

all i suggest, is that a couple of people try, what i found out, so we can have more reliable data. I am not saying, I have the ultimate solution.. but I have witnessed, what I wrote over and over again above.

Having same issue with iphone 4 and wifes 4s. Called apple support and after an intense diagnostic of "have you tried different charging cords and adapters?", they concluded that it was a coincidental hardware failure and the software upgrade could not cause this issue. And somehow she had never heard this issue come up before. Despite over 11000 people discussing it on their own forum. The phones are also not recognizing even being plugged into the charger or to the macbook for itunes. This all arose the day we did the upgrade to 7.0.6 software. Upgraded to 7.1 today and issue still persists. If anyone has a real idea to the solution for this problem, please come forward. Apple support seems only happy to sell us new iphones. As if we'd run out and do that at this point. And don't tell me to turn siri off. The 4 doesn't have her.

I have turned off Siri on my iphone 5 with 7.06 and it hasn't helped.

I started out the day at 11:00 am with 100% battery and didn't use it until 2:30 pm to check email. It had already dropped to 55%. I read about 8 emails when a message popped up saying I was down to less than 10%. I did a hard reset and after it restarted it said it was at 40%. I didn't use the phone after that in case I needed it for an emergency.

My phone worked fine until the 7.06 update. From everthing I've read so far, 7.1 hasn't fixed this problem.

Unfortunately, Apple's denial of the problem isn't going to fix it.

Did I try something..? Yes. I tried turning it off and back on. I also tried the two-finger reset. Then, I searched for info here with a similar topic. Based on that research, I looked at app issues (compatibility) and was going to completely reset my phone if that didn't work.

Here's what worked for me. On the same day that I installed iOS 7.06, I had also installed a new app. I deleted that app yesterday afternoon. I noticed an immediate change in how the battery responded to use. It dropped at a more normal rate and did not lose like it was in standby mode. This morning, I started with 100% charge and was at 74% by Noon (compared to 39% yesterday) with much the same in the way of use. I also did not see any decrease in standby mode. I'm satisfied that I'm operating at a normal level (since purchasing the phone) with the amount of usage I have. The name of this app was InstaPort. I'm going to submit a review today for this app. Anayway, I think this app either has an issue with 7.06 and up, or is doing something it shouldn't be, or just poorly made.

I hope this helps someone else.

Hi all

first of all . thanks for trying out the Siri thing, and I am sorry for those where it did not help...

I myself still play around with various things, and the iphone 4S with 7.06 and Siri switched off lays here, and shows 83% battery since I unolugged it on tuesday evening around 6 pm... I am not using it, but it drained within 5 hours prior to switching Siri off... I guess that still means something.

As for the iPhone 5S, which I upgraded to 7.1. ...I dared to switch Siri ON yesterday evening (all local time in Berlin, Germany) and except for small re-charges in the car, while listening to music / and heavy use of the phone, Safari and a couple of local service apps, the astonishing news here are: it is still with 68% battery as of now, local time 11 am. / i had it running over night - which means it held the battery for 17 hrs. and is still pretty full...

I even switched on a very few background loading apps again.

My guess is that whatever happened to Siri and my drastic drain, may have been repaired by the update to 7.1.

and i will test it soon due to updating the 4S as well and then re-check again.

again, i am sorry for those who still search for their sources of problems, unfortunately it seems there are more than one single root for the draining batteries...

Hello everybody,

For all of you who haven't updated to 7.1.

Will you please try the following steps before EACH AND EVERY iOS update.

1- double click home button and flip away all apps.

2- switch off phone for about 5 minutes and then switch it back on.

3- perform a hard reset ( press and hold both power button and home button till apple logo appears ).

4- go to settings and perform the iOS software update.

5- please make sure you perform these steps preferably at night ( the time when you don't expect calls, SMS, mail ... Etc ).

6- fully charge the battery ( preferably to perform the update while phone is charging ).

These steps where mentioned in a similar forum 3 years ago when apple released iOS 5 ( thanks to the person who made that post ). Since then I've been following these steps before EACH AND EVERY iOS update in all my apple devices and thankfully I've been having very minimal problems.

Hope this helps some of you fellows.

Kind regards to all.

Since I updated to ios7.1 I have had a terrible battery drain. I've done nothing different, no changes.

I did not experience any of the issues I read above about drain with 7.0.6, but since the upgrade to 7.1 I go from fully charged to 20% in 4 hours. Thank goodness for my Mophie, but that doesn't really address the underlying problem.

I have an iPhone 5, it's about a year old.

And I don't see any outraged items in a web search to show that others (ie the Tech Writers) are seeing this problem.

Wonder if it's worth going to see a Genius?
